We observe Holika Dahan the prior night Holi. Holika Dahan is where individuals accumulate some wooden squares and consume the inactive of Holika (the malevolent sister of Hiranyakashipu). Ruler Hiranyakashipu had a child named Prahlad who was a Lord Vishnu adherent. Lord Hiranyakashipu dislikes his child's conduct. So he and his sister Holika intended to murder Prahalada, so Holika made a device to execute Prahlada. She takes Prahlada into flame however in that fire, Holika kicks the bucket and Prahalada gets spared by Lord Vishnu. This is the motivation behind why we observe Holika Dahan before Holi Festival.
